Freddy Jousset is an international scuba diving professional, SDI Instructor Trainer and TDI technical diving instructor Trainer with extensive experience in recreational, technical and professional diver education.
Throughout his career, Freddy has worked with international diving organizations and trained divers and instructors in a wide range of diving environments around the world.
His professional focus today is scuba diving instructor development, technical diving education, professional crossovers and the development of confident, competent divers and instructors.
My Journey Into Diving
From Horse Racing to Scuba Diving
Freddy's professional journey began in the horse-racing industry in France,
a passion he developed from the age of 12.
His career in racing gave him the opportunity to work internationally and alongside respected professionals in the industry, including His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, Jenny Pitman and John Gosden.
Working in horse racing took Freddy to different parts of the world and developed many of the qualities that would later become central to his approach to diving education: discipline, attention to detail, preparation, communication and the ability to work under pressure.
Eventually, diving became his new professional passion.
From Dubai to the South Pacific
Freddy's diving career began in Dubai, where he found new professional opportunities and began developing his experience and qualifications within the diving industry.
His diving career subsequently took him to Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, including Fiji, Vanuatu and French Polynesia.
In French Polynesia, Freddy achieved his CMAS 2-Star Instructor qualification before moving to New Caledonia, where he established an FFESSM dive club.
These international experiences gave Freddy exposure to very different diving environments, cultures and teaching situations—and helped shape his approach to professional diver education.
From Instructor to Instructor Trainer
Freddy continued developing his professional qualifications , eventually becoming a PADI instructor.
He later moved to Lanzarote in the European Union, where he worked as an SSI Instructor Trainer, continuing his development in professional diver education and instructor training.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Freddy returned to the United Arab Emirates, where he continued teaching and training divers while expanding his work in instructor development.
Throughout his career, Freddy has certified more than 1,000 divers.
SDI & TDI Instructor Training
Developing the Next Generation of Diving Professionals
Today, Freddy is an SDI Instructor Trainer and works extensively with professional divers and instructors.
His primary focus is organizing and conducting SDI Instructor Development Courses (IDCs), particularly in the Middle East and internationally.
Freddy also provides SDI professional development and crossover training, helping qualified instructors from other training organizations understand the pathway into SDI.
Through TDI (Technical Diving International), Freddy also works with divers and instructors progressing into technical diving and technical instructor development.
Also very recently Freddy can teach SDI Course Director.
More Than Just Instructor Training
Although instructor development and technical diving are an important part of Freddy's professional work, he continues to teach recreational scuba diving.
Staying connected with divers at every level is important to him.
Teaching basic courses allows Freddy to remain connected to the experience of new divers, understand the challenges students face and continue developing his own teaching approach.
For Freddy, being an instructor trainer is not about stepping away from diving—it is about continuing to learn, teach and share experience.
