How do I become an SDI Instructor?
The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor pathway includes the required academic preparation, Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC), together with the applicable SDI prerequisites.
How many dives do I need to become an SDI Instructor?
SDI's current published prerequisites include 100 logged dives in a variety of environments and depths. Other prerequisites also apply. Requirements can change, so candidates should confirm their eligibility against the current SDI Standards & Procedures.
How long is an SDI IDC?
The duration depends on the candidate group, location and training plan. Freddy will confirm the schedule
when an IDC is organized.
Don't put "two weeks" here unless that is still how you intend to structure your own programme. The agency standard and your actual delivery schedule are two different things.
Can a PADI or SSI instructor become an SDI Instructor?
Potentially, yes. Qualified instructors from other recognized agencies may have an SDI crossover pathway, depending on their existing qualifications and the applicable SDI requirements.

Where does Freddy conduct SDI IDC programmes?
Training is organized internationally, with regular professional development activity in the UAE and selected international locations.
What happens after the IDC?
Candidates who successfully complete the IDC proceed to the applicable Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC). The IEC evaluates the candidate's ability to teach and perform at instructor level.
